Paul Polman Trivia Questions

Polman was born and raised in the Netherlands but has lived and worked in multiple countries, including the US, UK, and Nigeria. He currently splits time between the UK and Switzerland.

Polman retired voluntarily in 2019 after a decade as CEO. He famously stopped issuing quarterly earnings guidance to focus on long-term value, a move many criticized but he defended.

As Unilever CEO, Polman launched the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan in 2010, and in 2015 he was the first major CEO to fully embrace the UN SDGs as a core business strategy.

Polman pushed for reduced plastic and more recyclable packaging, but he never banned it entirely. Unilever still uses plastic today, though they've pledged to make all packaging reusable or recyclable by 2025.

In 2015, Unilever announced it would be carbon positive in its own operations by 2030, and by 2020 it already achieved zero non-hazardous waste to landfill across its factories globally.

In 2013, Polman co-founded the B Team with Sir Richard Branson. The nonprofit brings together CEOs and leaders to advocate for a more sustainable and equitable economy.

Polman earned a degree in economics from the University of Groningen and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati. There's no record of him studying theology at university.

Before Unilever, Polman spent 26 years at P&G. He served as finance director in Nigeria in the 1980s, an experience that shaped his global perspective on poverty and development.
