Bandy is essentially ice hockey with a ball. Players skate and use curved sticks, but the ball is hard and orange.

The Bandy World Championship has been dominated by Russia (and the former Soviet Union) and Sweden since its inception; the United States has never won the title.

In Russia, bandy is known as 'Russian hockey' (русский хоккей), while ice hockey is called 'Canadian hockey'.

Bandy is an ice sport played with a ball on a frozen surface, either outdoors or in indoor ice rinks. A basketball court has a hard floor, not ice, making such play impossible.

Bandy developed in England and the Netherlands in the 19th century, with modern rules set by Russians and Swedes.
