Surya Bonaly Trivia Questions

Bonaly was born in Nice, France, to a French mother and a father from Réunion. She skated for France her whole competitive career.

She never won the World Championships. Her best results were silver medals in 1993, 1994, and 1995, each time losing to Oksana Baiul or others.

Despite being a three-time World silver medalist and five-time European champion, she never medaled at the Olympics, finishing 4th in 1992 and 5th in 1994.

She coached in the U.S. and France, and skated in shows like Champions on Ice. She also became a professional pairs skater later in her career.

At the 1998 Olympics, Bonaly performed a backflip on one blade during her free skate. It was illegal under ISU rules but she did it defiantly, earning a deduction.

Bonaly attempted a quad toe loop at the 1992 Olympics but it was underrotated and not ratified. Miki Ando landed the first ratified quad in 2002.

At the 1994 World Championships, after being placed second despite a clean skate, she removed her silver medal and refused to stand on the podium in protest.

She was famous for bold, often revealing costumes, but animal prints were not a signature. Her iconic look included black and red or metallic fabrics, not patterns.
