Babe Ruth Trivia Questions

Ruth was a star left-handed pitcher for the Red Sox, winning 23 games in 1916 and 24 in 1917. He only became a full-time outfielder after being traded to the Yankees.

Ruth was known for his appetite. In 1920, he reportedly ate a hot dog and drank a soda between innings, then hit a home run. He often snacked during games.

Ruth hit 714 career home runs, but 49 of them were as a Boston Red Sox pitcher/outfielder (1914–1919). The remaining 665 came with the Yankees.

Ruth struck out looking in the 1926 World Series—rare for him, as he usually swung hard. He had 1,330 career strikeouts, but this one was a called third strike.

No clear video evidence exists of the called shot. The famous gesture is debated; Ruth might have been pointing at the pitcher or the crowd, not signaling a home run.

Ruth embraced 'Babe' and even used it in commercials and autographs. He was also called 'the Bambino' and 'the Sultan of Swat,' but 'Babe' was his favorite.

Ruth hit 54 homers in 1920, but the Phillies as a team hit 64 that year—so he didn't out-homer them. However, he did out-homer several other teams that season.

The MVP award existed, but Ruth never won it, partly because the rules then barred players from winning more than once (he won in 1923). He was unfairly excluded later.
